Profile of Doreen Lorezeno

Doreen Lorenzo

Founding Director

Doreen Lorenzo is a successful leader of global creative firms who advised Fortune 100 companies on design and innovation issues for decades. In March 2016 she was appointed Director of the Center for Integrated Design, University of Texas-Austin. She is a co-founder of mobile video insights firm Vidlet, as well as a board member and advisor of several other startups, and a columnist for Fast Co. Design and Medium. A recognized thought leader on business and design issues, she speaks publicly about her signature leadership style and the power of empathy to drive business results.

From 2013 to 2015 Doreen was president of Quirky, where she oversaw product development and operations for this fast-growing company. Prior to Quirky she worked at frog design for 16 years, including seven years as president. While president of frog she drove company strategy, oversaw worldwide operations and delivery, and led the iconic design firm to record growth.

Doreen earned a master’s degree in communication and media studies from Boston University and a bachelor’s degree in theater from the State University of New York, Stony Brook.

Michelle Harris

Michelle Harris

Senior Program Coordinator

Prior to transitioning into her role as Senior Program Coordinator for CID, native Texan Michelle Harris spent the last several years as the assistant to Dean Dempster in the College of Fine Arts, learning the ins and outs of university administration. She earned an honors bachelor’s degree in French and is an alumna of the Liberal Arts Plan I Honors program at the University of Texas at Austin. After college, she spent two years working as a French speaker at Apple Inc. before she moved to western France for a year to teach English at a high school. When she got back to the US, she completed a master’s degree in French language and literature at the University of Virginia.

Michelle firmly believes that her language studies and time abroad have contributed significantly to her empathetic, communication, and problem-solving skills, all of which have played a role in her transition into the Design Thinking arena.

An avid baker, athlete, and consummate nerd, Michelle has been playing competitive volleyball for 20 years and spends much of her remaining free time perfecting French pastry techniques, playing Dungeons and Dragons with friends, and training to run away and join the circus. She’s owned by a tiny Shiba Inu with big opinions, and aspires to one day become a Jedi knight.
